White House Warns Alabama IVF Pause 'Could Spread' to Other States

Bloomberg Quicktake: Now Underscoring the Alabama Supreme Court 'got it wrong,' the White House Friday warned Americans the court's decision resulting in the suspension of many in vitro fertilization programs in the state "could spread" beyond Alabama. Speaking to reporters at the White House briefing, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said what many Alabama families are going through "is unimaginable."
"This could spread. This could go beyond Alabama. And that is a scary thought for many families across the country, certainly many women across the country," she warned. The comments come after a ruling by the all-Republican Alabama Supreme Court, among the nation's most conservative judicial panels, that frozen embryos can be considered children under state law.
