Even if another Christmas comes
without a love under my tree
that I can touch,
in Christ I have family
who will never forsake me.
Lit by a new star,
even the cattle in a manger
knelt down beside the shepherds,
transfixed in awe of the divine newborn babe.
Likewise I also take comfort in the hope
that Christ will soon come to me,
now and always with his swaddling bands of peace wrapped around my breast,
to my home, my work, to the street
or anywhere I might be.
So the glad tidings I'll proclaim,
that, thanks to this giving king,
whose tender companionship and influence steadies all,
neither you nor I will ever be left alone.
