China and Asean have agreed on guidelines that would accelerate negotiations on producing a legally binding code of conduct for the disputed South China Sea. The news came shortly before China’s top diplomat Wang Yi met Indonesia’s foreign minister during the annual Asean summit in the Indonesian capital Jakarta on July 13, 2023.
