The German Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (DBFV e.V.) has been a cornerstone of bodybuilding in Germany since its foundation in 1966. As a non-profit organization built on democratic principles, it collaborates with regional associations across the country, focusing on both competitive and recreational aspects of the sport, nationally and internationally.
The DBFV, reconstituted in 1979 and renamed in 1994, champions the promotion of bodybuilding and strength sports. It is committed to the advancement of sporting activities involving weights and equipment, benefiting from the expertise of numerous professionals and successful athletes.
Membership in the DBFV is open to regional associations, which in turn accept gyms and clubs. These members can participate in regional and national championships endorsed by the European (EBFF) and World Federations (IFBB) since the DBFV's inception.
To compete in DBFV championships, athletes must acquire a starter license through the DBFV website. Competitions include state championships, with special provisions allowing youth, juniors, and masters to directly participate in national/international German championships for their categories without prior qualification.
Following successful state championship placements, athletes can progress to national/international German championships. From there, participation in international competitions under the EBFF (European) or IFBB (World) is possible by applying for an "International Start."
Finally, outstanding performers at specific championships have the opportunity to achieve an Elite Pro Card, marking their transition to professional status. This path, under the guidance and support of the DBFV, exemplifies the association's dedication to nurturing talent and promoting excellence in the sport.
