Among the composers featured are John Adams, Terry Riley, Philip Glass, John Cage, Meredith Monk, and Moondog. In addition, the 22 tracks on Pulse embrace a variety of other idioms: traditional music such as Danny Boy and Shenandoah, as reimagined by jazz masters Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett; electronic grooves in the collaboration of French duo Daft Punk with legendary producer and songwriter Giorgio Moroder; and the intricacies of African-American composer Julius Eastman (1940-1990). Shani is joined for Eastman's The Holy Presence of Joan d’Arc by musicians from the UK-based Chineke!, Europe’s first majority-Black and ethnically diverse orchestra.
