Kansas City Young Audiences Community School of the Arts 2015

· 15.03.2015 · 19:04:48 ··· Sonntag ⭐ 0 🎬 0 📺 Kim Shope
Performances by the delightful and dedicated dance students of Kansas City Young Audiences' Community School of the Arts. Performances are danced by more than 80 young students age 3 to 16 years old. Our young students are assisted by the more experienced dancers creating a sweet camaraderie between the different classes, enhancing leadership skills, responsibility and the importance of teamwork.

Teenage dancers are often encouraged to choreograph their own solos or small group dances for performances. This opportunity has proved to be a deeper learning experience for our students by giving them chances to grow artistically by enhancing self expression, creativity and self esteem while developing their vital life skills including critical thinking, organization, decision making, responsibility, and communication. “I observe the dancers as they create, reflect, challenge and adapt during their collaborations and know this is learning at its best.” ~ Kim Shope

CSA Dance Teaching Artists share their love of dance with all students regardless of experience, ability, size, or economic background. Dance Teaching Artists value the overall well being of each individual child and strive to incorporate important life skills and learning experiences into all dance classes. We encourage their growth by giving them the confidence to set and achieve goals through trial and error to enhance resiliency. Training incorporates “call and response activities” that take advantage of verbal and physical learning modes to absorb more and develop a deeper understanding of dance technique and terminology. We teach Observation and Communication skills during classes. Even the youngest dance students are asked to observe one of their peers demonstrating a step and verbalize what the student did correctly. As students advance they may create a dance step combination for their whole class and explain proper technique before and after the combinations are executed. “Seeing the pride swell in a child when their peers tell them they pointed their toes, jumped really high or tried their hardest is an added benefit of asking students to share the correct technical aspects of the step.” ~ Kim Shope
